Comic Station Issue #23 – June 5th 2013

We at Comic Station try to highlight new releases and other series many might otherwise overlook. We typically don’t report on long-standing series unless revolutionary. After a very eventful weekend at the Wizard World Philadelphia Comic Convention we have plenty of featured articles coming out over the next few days to announce.

New Releases: Vertigo reintroduces an old classic, Astro City #1, this week on Comic Station. Two comic books with movies have new issues, with Kick Ass 3 #1 and Daredevil: Dark Nights #1 both coming out today. Zenescope has a new addition to their lineup, though not tied into the Grimm Fairy Tales world, with Screwed #1 out today.

Review: Comic Station is glad to highlight a review from our newest contributor, Corey Atwood, as he brings us his review of The Art of Remember Me. A futuristic cyberpunk Paris where memories can be bought and altered.

Recommendation: Scott recommends a hands-down favorite of Comic Station with Red Son by Mark Millar.

Philadelphia Comic Con News: We have a Cosplay Photo Gallery, Exclusive First Interview with Zenescope’s unannounced No Tomorrowand much more.

Philadelphia Comic Con Cosplay Gallery

Conventions such as Wizard World’s Philadelphia Comic Con attract fans of various media, genres, age groups and degrees of fervor. For the select few, they show their love by dressing up as their favorite characters, or even a parody of them. Despite being a comic convention, as the mediums have mashed together so have the cosplays (Costume + Play = Cosplay). This fandom spans not only genres, but age groups as well, with many great examples of families going out in themed groups. Even a few attendees of Philadelphia Comic Con broke the species barrier, with their canine companions getting into the dress up action.

While we all know this and love to hear about how cosplay has garnered more respect in the recent years, no longer relegated to a dirty word, so I’ll let them do what they do best: Be seen. Let us know which costumes you think are this years Best of Philadelphia Comic Con 2013!

Tales of Xillia designer Hideo Baba interviewed at New York Comic COn

At the 2012 New York Comic Con we sat down with Hideo Baba, designer of Tales of Xillia, to discuss some of their mechanics and how a heavily regarded Japanese RPG (JPRG) might be seen by a western audience. With such success in the Japanese market the developers at Namco Bandai are hopeful to increase western awareness.

Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 3 Interview with Hiroshi Matsuyama (CEO)

At the 2012 New York Comic Con the floor was a combination of Comic, Anime, Manga and Video Game influences. Booths selling comics were feet from the latest anime series while video game trailers blared in the background. The show floor wasn’t the only place these various medias met. At the Namco Bandai section these same mixes have resulted in an anime video game that combines role-playing game (RPG) and fighting elements to create a unique hybrid of these genres.

Interview with Rooster Teeth at New York Comic Con

At New York Comic Con 2012, there are many vendors, artists, and industry talents. Among these great talents were a group of guys from Austin, Texas known for their live action shorts, animated series, and internet cinematic shows called machinima: Rooster Teeth. We sat down – OK, more like stood next to – their Matt Hullum (Rooster Teeth co-founder, Red vs. Blue writer/director/voice of ”Sarge”) to discuss their latest Red vs. Blue episodes and upcoming Season 10 DVD/Blu-Ray set.

New York Comic Con: Comics, Video Games, and COSPLAY!

The New York Comic Con has been bringing people together to celebrate the work of comics and more since 2006. Since then they’ve expanded to include many other pop-cultural institutions such as Television, Anime, Manga, Video Games and even full feature length films. Due to the large overlap in the interests in 2010 the New York Anime Festival was joined with the New York Comic Con. From a respectable beginning with an estimated 33,000 attendees the comic convention has grown exponentially to take over the Javits Center with an attendance of over 105,000, according to the official New York Comic Con website.

New York Comic Con: Press Pass Notice

Going to the New York Comic Con 2012 as part of the Press Group. I'll have to apply for individual panels and interviews. Once the website is updated with the panel list I'll have to give them the look-over and prioritize. Am more excited than I can convey.
