Comic Station Issue #32 – Aug 7th 2013

Comic Station #32 Feature
We at Comic Station try to highlight new releases and other series many might otherwise overlook. We typically don’t report on long-standing series unless revolutionary. We add a little something extra in our Review section.
New Releases: Trillium #1 from Vertigo kicks off this episode of Comic Station with an interesting gimmick. Buck Rogers #1 from Hermes Press renews a classic title. Dynamite also reboots a series, Lady Rawhide #1 which reminds us of a female Zorro in great artwork. Boom! starts a new line in the Robocop franchise with Robocop: Last Stand #1.
Review: We have a number of titles to review this week on Comic Station. Ghost: In the Smoke and Din and Tarzan: The Sunday Comics, both from Dark Horse, try their best with mild success. Black Bolt: Something Inhuman This Way Comes from Marvel repackages classic stories to bring the Inhumans back to public knowledge. Sidekick #1from Image tells the tale of a broken superhero sidekick who lost his partner and possibly his sanity.

Comic Station Issue #30 – July 24th 2013

Comic Station #30 Feature
We at Comic Station try to highlight new releases and other series many might otherwise overlook. We typically don’t report on long-standing series unless revolutionary. We add a little something extra in our Reviews and Recommendation section.
New Releases: We have what is probably our biggest publisher New Releases to Comic Station. The Hunger #1from Marvel kicks off with Galactus entering the Ultimate Universe. Superior Spider-man Team-Up #1 has Octavius meeting, and beating, many great heroes and villains alike. The only small publisher on this issue of Comic Station,The All New Fathom #1 from Aspen Comics is a good start for those looking to get into the Fathom series. We end with Hawkeye Annual from Marvel.
Review: Batman ’66 #1 from DC Comics and Superior Carnage #1 from Marvel are the two large publishers reviewed this week on Comic Station. Invincible #104 from Image Comics continue it’s run, while Watson and Holmes #1 from New Paradigm Studios takes old characters and reimagines them in modern New York.  Finally, Mass Effect: Foundation #1 from Dark Horse Comics contains a great twist that is great for fans and new readers.

Comic Station Issue #29 – July 17th 2013

Comic Station Feature
We at Comic Station try to highlight new releases and other series many might otherwise overlook. We typically don’t report on long-standing series unless revolutionary. We add a little something extra in our Reviews and Recommendation section.
New Releases: Since we reviewed Blood Brothers #1 from Dark Horse Comics in last weeks’ Comic Station, we just briefly mention it today. Batman ’66 from DC Comics tries to recapture the old Adam West Batman style, while Red Sonja #1 from Dynamite moves this classic character forward. Boom Comics mixes the vampire craze with mafia to create Day Men #1.
Review: There were five Comic Station reviews this week, so we try to shotgun through them in reasonable time. First,Skin Trade #1 from Image Comics. Second, Oz #1 from Zenescope followed by Dawn: The Swordsman Daughter and Other Tales in third. Rounding out the reviews in fourth and fifth place for this Comic Station issue were The Unforgivable #1 Experiment 11:34 from Brainmachine Comix and Kafka HC from Image respectively.
Extra: Since Scott couldn’t join us for this issue of Comic Station, Paul and Lido remind everyone that Sandiego Comic Con is this week and briefly go over what they’re looking forward to from SDCC.

Comic Station Issue #26 – June 26th 2013

Comic Station Issue #26 Feature
We at Comic Station try to highlight new releases and other series many might otherwise overlook. We typically don’t report on long-standing series unless revolutionary. We add a little something extra in our Reviews and Recommendation section.
New Releases: It was a no-brainer kicking of Comic Station Issue #26 with Batman/Superman #1 from DC Comics. Image Comics continues their number one releases with Lazarus #1Uncanny #1 from Dynamite Comics takes a hustler, mystery and adds a supernatural twist.
Review: From our Man of Steel movie recap, Lido Giovacchini writes his first review for Comic Station with his review of Hoax Hunters: Case Files #1. A quirky group of supernatural hunters in strange and hilarious circumstances.
Recommendation: Scott recommends King Conan from Dark Horse Comics on this issue of Comic Station.

Comic Station Issue #22 – May 29th 2013

Comic Station Feature
We at Comic Station try to highlight new releases and other series many might otherwise overlook. We typically don’t report on long-standing series unless revolutionary. Due to Memorial Day the shipment of comics has been delayed and Scott can’t join us, so Paul will be alone again on this issue of Comic Station.
New Releases: With the lack of material, we make due with the New Releases from Image Comics and Zenescope we have access to on Comic Station. First, a follow-up on Image Comics’ Five Weapons #4 by Jimmie Robinson, a current favorite in Paul’s pull-list. As part of our continued interest in Zenescope’s Grimm Fairy Tales run on Comic Station, we look at Wonderland: Down the Rabbit Hole #1 and Realm Knights (One-shot). From Dark Horse Comics, we follow up on The Last of Us #2 and fully expect this one to sell out too.
Review: We have the first review for Rob Mellesh on this issue of Comic Station as a full-fledged member of Front Towards Gamer. Rob reviewed Witch Doctor: Mal Practice #5 so well we want to go back and read this series. Love his quote, “This is how serialized fiction is meant to be done. Brandon Seifert’s script and Lukas Ketner’s art do it in macabre style.”

Comic Station Issue #20 – May 15th 2013

Comic Station #20 Feature
We at Comic Station try to highlight new releases and other series many might otherwise overlook. We typically don't report on long-standing series unless revolutionary. We add a little something extra in our Reviews and Recommendation section. Though, Scott is out sick this week, so there won't be a recommendation section in this Comic Station.
New Releases: The story of Carol Danvers as Captain Marvel crosses over with Avengers Assemble in Avengers: The Enemy Within #1 from Marvel Comics. Doomsday might have missed the mayan calendar, but in Doomsday .1 #1from IDW it still comes nonetheless. What could go wrong when a loser, pothead and all-around bad boyfriend steals an Aboriginal headmask? He wakes up not surrounded by dead people and blood on his hands in Dream Thief #1 from Dark Horse Comics.
Review: The Dream Merchant #1 from Image Comics continues the dream theme on this issue of Comic Station, and again it makes for an interesting read.
Thank you and please leave comments here or on YouTube as we continue to evolve our coverage. For a listing of more New Releases we couldn't get to, a list can be found below the video.
Recommendation: Scott is sick, so no recommendation this Comic Station.

Comic Station Issue #17 – April 24th 2013

Comic Station #17 Feature
We at Comic Station try to highlight new releases and other series many might otherwise overlook. We typically don’t report on long-standing series unless revolutionary. We add a little something extra in our Reviews and Recommendation section.
New Releases: For the New Releases this week we look at Jupiter’s Legacy #1 from Image on this Comic Station. After that, we look at Amala’s Blade #1 from Dark Horse Comics, a followup from our review of Amala’s Blade #0 on a previous Comic Station. We also take a look at Helheim #2 as it continues the Viking Epic from the first issue. Of course, we even take a look at East of West #2 from Image Comics, though it lacks the action of the first issue, the plot thickens on this gripping tale.
Review: On this week of Comic Station we have a double-whammy. As part of Zenescope’s new world-altering Unleashed Event, the latest issues, Unleashed #1 and Vampires #1 get the ball rolling in grand style. In Unleashed #1the dangerous new enemy, The Being, has released the classical monsters from their jail cell called the Shadowlands. Of the creatures, werewolves, demons and vampires are among them. As the queen of the vampires, Samira gets her own crossover title in Vampires #1. We at Comic Station are excited for this Unleashed Event, as it gives an epic new story and a great starting point for readers to get into the Grimm Fairy Tales universe.
Recommendation: Scott recommends one of our favorites with Superman Earth One Volume One and Two. It’s perfect timing with the upcoming Superman movie, and look forward to more Superman on future Comic Stations.

Comic Station Issue #10 – March 6th 2013

The Comic Station videos bring the latest in New Releases, Reviews and Recommendations each week in Comic Books.
New Releases: The Avengers and X-men get more time together in a dystopian and bleak future in Age of Ultron #1 issue from Marvel Comics. Image Comics knows sex sells and hope it’s true that SEX #1 will sell. This one is NOT FOR KIDS! More in line for all-ages and kids, DC Comics has Ame-Comi Girls #1 where the characters of the DC Universe are in an all-female cast, even the traditionally male characters.
Review: We mention the Guardians of the Galaxy review, which we featured as a New Release on Comic Station Issue #9 last week. This week on Comic Station we look at Oni Press and their a great new Viking mystic in Helheim #1. A beautiful and gripping story that takes it beyond the typical Viking book.
Recommendation: Scott gives Red She-Hulk some love on this issue of Comic Station!
Special One-Shot: We had a special Comic Station One-Shot Interview with Jimmie Robinson, who wrote, drew and lettered Five Weapons #1 which we reviewed last week.
Thank you and please leave comments here or on YouTube as we continue to evolve our coverage. For a listing of more New Releases we couldn’t get to, a list can be found below the video.

Comic Station Issue #9 – February 27th 2013

This issue of Comic Station brings some great New Releases as well as a special one-shot interview with Philadelphia Publisher, 215Ink.
New Releases: For this week we highlight three new number one issue releases on Comic Station #9. The big one,Gaurdians of the Galaxy #0.1 introduces a team that many younger readers, and a few older, might not recognize but will be having their own movie next year. Zenescope publishers have two new issues, Madness of Wonderland #1and The Jungle Book: The Last of the Species #1. Both titles feature Zenescope’s penchant for beautiful artwork and women. Not number ones, but worthy of attention Injustice Gods Among Us #2 and Young Avengers #2 were also shown on Comic Station Issue #9.
Review: Two reviews for the young teen readers. Amala’s Blade #0 from Dark Horse Comics has an assassin turned pirate, and Five Weapons #1 from Image Comics has an hitman-in-training.
Recommendation: Scott’s recommendation for this Comic Station is Warlord of Mars from Dynamite. This is certainly not your Disney’s John Carter.
Special: We had a special one-shot edition of Comic Station on publish on Sunday, with an interview of 215Ink who are publishing a special book: Ignition Anthology. This 300 page collection of over 80 writing/art teams will be releasing at the end of March.

Five Weapons #1: Review (Comic)

Image Comics has been on a run of creating some great entries, especially for the adult comic book readers, but one of their newest titles makes a big for the young adult reader.  Five Weapons #1 centers on a unique school for the hitman-in-training children and its newest enrolled student. In an impressive feat, this book features the work of Jimmie Robinson as the writer, illustrator and letterer all rolled into one.
Each student at the Five Weapons school is encouraged to identify with one of five schools of practice: knives, staves, archery, guns and exotic weapons. They are trained in the martial art of their weapon of choice, complete with classes and fights in the courtyard. This of course makes Tyler Shainline stand out even more. Not only is he from a long line of infamous hitmen, but he refuses to take up arms.
